29erXX

That 29erXX started with the same hull shape as todays 29er with a twin spreader rig, mast head kite, and twin wires.

What then happened was the boat was refined and re-targeted, probably very appropriately at the youth market, yet the existence of that rig along with another was known to a few and sailing quite regularly.

As the 29er grew, so did the demand for a stepping stone to the bigger, faster 49er.  Initially a small 49er rig was trialled, the rig, but that was not quite right. The 29er sailors wanted there own boat, a supped up 29er, not a dumbed down 49er.

As technology developed and lending a lot from the 59er development, came the original 29erXX rig.

What is truly amazing about the 29erXX is that it appears to push the boat just over that “tipping point”, it has sufficient power to weight ratio to fully un-stick upwind and downwind alike. It has a freedom on the water that is quite unique and acceleration that hails back to the era of the 2 handed 18 footers.

If you learn to master a 29erXX, then there will be little that confronts you in your future sailing career.

Strict one-design, latest in Carbon mast technology and sail design, incorporating all we have learnt of gearing and having sufficient sail area, but no excess.

It is unashamedly targeted at light crew weights as there are very few kgs between a 29er and a 49er ideal weight. This boat is meant for those of small frame who want to enjoy the thrills of skiff sailing without being “blown off the face of the earth” because the boat has tried to be everything to every person.

This boat is meant for those people, just enough sail, set flat, soft mast, just perfect for light crews, in a boat design for them and not for everyone.
